About
I’m not a medium specific artist. Never was. I’m not an artist by profession either, but rather by being.
Ask me my main medium? Well, I’ve been singing since I was one and a half, growing into a self trained soprano without formal training. I’ve been writing since I was seven. It’s the one and only way I breathe. Poetry is my anatomy, since I taste wor(l)ds.
I was part of the sixth edition of The Wrong Biennale, where my curator, Dong Zhou, composed music to a poem I wrote in 2020. It became Shades, part of their EP Congee Rats’ Reliquary.
I started a podcast. It reached 17 countries in a year, but something felt wrong. I’m at the stage of figuring out what feels right.
I self published my first poetry book. It hit number 4 in Women’s Poetry in the UK on its first day, following a virtual exhibition with an art collective. I’ve also been published in anthologies, where my words told stories about the discomfort of the human experience.
Previously, I’d have written beautifully curated bios. Professional sounding ones. I no longer want to read them myself.
I used to think about how my work connects to women who have historically been denied the opportunity to be themselves. But I decided I wouldn’t carry the narrative of a victim. And I’m not a survivor either. I’m me. C. And life is life.
The most uncomfortable parts of being human are what make us one. That’s what my work is about.
